STRAVA
Strava has a free and paid version. The paid version, Strava Summit, gives you access to more features. Strava Summit costs $7.99 per month or $59.99 per year. The free version of Strava offers activity tracking, social media streaming, the ability to find local sporting events, and more.
Strava provides a benefit for elite athletes with its obvious statistical analysis capability, but also because it has become a social network in its own right, a community of like-minded professionals who can support and motivate each other in their pursuit of athletic success. Strava also acts as a valuable social media platform. allows professionals to build an audience that is genuinely interested in them as athletes, Benson explains: “Strava is a great platform for building an audience. For example, with Instagram, is anyone really interested in the intricacies of your education, or are they just interested in a nice photo from a place you're traveling to? With Strava, it's much more relevant and my followers are like-minded people who are genuinely interested in what I do."
Strava allows athletes to track their progress.
Besides more technical training analysis, one of the main reasons professionals use Strava is because it provides a platform to record their sessions. Over the course of weeks and months, these sessions can be set to customizable goals and progress can be easily tracked.
Athletes can greet each other and leave comments on other people's activities. The Groups feature allows athletes to start group competitions, join clubs, meet other users, and participate in existing competitions. Users receive trophies for course records and personal records and can see who beat them on the "scoreboard" in the same segment. Some organizations sponsor competitions with prizes (eg. Adidas, Nuun, Salomon)

GARMIN
Without a Garmin device, runners and many athletes won't be able to show great run times, track the distances of their runs, or even plan an appropriate workout. Initially, Garmin began selling its GPS technology to the US Army, and with this success it was able to expand its product lines and create some of the technological marvels we now use every day. Wanting to achieve more, Garmin began creating quality products for people and athletes of all levels.
Designed specifically for athletes, Garmin uses the best of technology to provide you with every important detail with any training regimen. Garmin sports watches measure performance, track activities, and help you monitor the progress of your individual goals. In addition to running, Garmin multisport watches can help you get more out of a variety of sports, such as walking, yoga, cycling, and swimming.
Training, competition, and sport-specific features:
Garmin can tell you how fast you should run during a race. For non-competitive sports such as surfing, Garmin can report wave height and speed, while for backcountry skiing, the watch displays metrics such as vertical feet climbed. The watch also suggests how many hours you should rest after each workout, based on the intensity of the activity and your sleep quality.
GPS accuracy and navigation:
Many Garmin watches use multiple satellite systems to improve location accuracy in challenging environments such as large cities with tall buildings. (Apple's Ultra also has multiple ways to track your location.) Garmin can help if you get lost, too, with preloaded topographic maps. Garmin's smartphone app lets you create routes or load courses from apps like Strava or Komoot, then follow the route on your watch with turn-by-turn navigation.
There are roughly 18 million Garmin watch users, according to Strategy Analytics, with many 10s of millions more using the firm's cycling computers. Fri 31 Jan 2020

RUNKEEPER
The ASICS Runkeeper app is a fitness app that claims to make you a stronger runner. The product was launched in 2008. In 2016, it was acquired by ASICS, a Japanese company that manufactures a wide variety of sporting goods. The Runkeeper GPS running tracker does a really good job of making you feel like you have a workout buddy by your side. You can set audio signals for different stats like speed, distance, pace, time and even heart rate. You can also choose who you go for your run with. There are quite a lot of sound types available.
Longer workouts can become boring over time. If you do long cardio sessions on a regular basis, it can get monotonous at a certain point. At this point, Runkeeper challenges can be very helpful. They activate your competitive spirit by allowing you to test yourself against other users. Even when you're tired, knowing that you've done it with thousands of people allows you to put one foot in front of the other.
The basic principle of a leaderboard is to compare yourself to others. Leaderboards are a method that wants to increase the motivation of the competitors by using gamification tactics. Leaderboards contain game elements that rank individual performance against certain criteria and provide competitive progress indicators.
Runkeeper counts 34 million users around the world. The app allows users to track their runs, walks and other workouts using the GPS in their phones and by logging their activities.
You can upgrade to a Runkeeper Go membership for just $39.99 per year.
There are the most Runkeeper users in the USA in the world.
It is widely used in countries such as Japan, Brazil and India outside of Europe.
COMPARISON OF SPORTS APPS
Garmin was chosen as the best fitness app according to the Versus comparison site.
Purple: Garmin
Green: Strava
Red: RunKeeper
While Garmin offers you deeper data analysis, Strava is more intuitive and clearly the social network for cyclists, and also one of the most comprehensive map and route resources in the world.
Athletes looking to train for competitions, races or marathons will find Runkeeper more useful than Garmin and Strava.
Runkeeper's social features aren't as fancy as Strava's, but you can still enjoy the social experience of tagging your running buddy in the app. You can also see your friend's running journeys, pictures, and activities.
GPS is a necessary function to run applications; if there are points on your route where the signal is not good, the data feedback may be inconsistent with the total mileage. Among these apps, Runkeeper seems to have the most hurdles with GPS functionality.
